Jeopardy Rotation
  1. 2-week rotation during 2nd and 3rd year. Resident is used to cover APPROVED absences in advance. Jeopardy can be used for ANY rotation coverage in which a resident is needed: OB, CHO, in-patient rounding, ICU, NHO/NA/NF, Newborn.
  2. Examples of coverage that is acceptable use of Jeopardy: excused absences that are known to be more than just 1 day (i.e. if a resident is very ill and is expected to need 2+ days off or if a resident has a scheduled surgery), conferences/ALSO course, retreats (i.e. Intern retreat).
  3. Examples of when Jeopardy should NOT be used: same-day absences (i.e. if a resident calls in sick when on in-patient), board exams (interns have been told to schedule this IN ADVANCE during an outpatient rotation and not during in-patient rotations/CHO/nights), vacations, holidays.
  4. Details:
    • Jeopardy resident can be contacted UP to 1:00 pm the DAY BEFORE to cover a day shift the following day or UP to 8:00 pm the DAY BEFORE a night shift. This allows a sick resident to call in to the scheduler and then give the scheduler time to contact the Jeopardy resident the same morning.
    • Jeopardy SHOULD NOT be used for holiday coverage; HOWEVER, if the Jeopardy resident is being used to cover another resident and a HOLIDAY is within that time frame, the Jeopardy resident STILL must cover that shift.
    • Residents on Jeopardy should NOT schedule ANY other activity for themselves that will interfere with their ability to show up for coverage if called in advance.
    • Jeopardy is not a vacation month. Do not purchase plane tickets or make any other commitments that you cannot break on at least 18 hours notice. There will be zero tolerance for residents that are unable to fulfill his or her Jeopardy commitment.

Callback Resident
  1. Who? Residents on OUTPATIENT rotations used to cover LAST MINUTE coverage. Hours: Mon-Fri 5pm to 8am; Sat, Sun and Holidays 8am – 8am.
  2. This is a paid position since the resident is called in last minute and is only called in if expected to work 3+ hours.
  3. Expected uses for callback: backup for admissions at night/weekends, CHO ER on Friday night same-day absence, any same-day absence on nights, weekends or holidays to cover for in-patient/OB/CHO/nights/ICU
  4. What callback is NOT used for: weekday same-day coverage for in-patient or CHO. The residents on outpatient rotations always have scheduled clinical duties, and thus it is not acceptable to continuously pull these residents last minute from their clinics to do rounding same day. This coverage should NOT be abused but is available if needed.
